Naperville Anxiety Therapists Serving the Chicagoland Area

Living a fulfilling life is still possible through counseling. It’s true that life is constantly changing. While we can’t always control the events that happen to us, we can learn to navigate every high and low. JCA Mental Health equips you with the coping skills and confidence needed to handle anxiety and continue moving toward your goals.

More Than “Just Nerves”

Anxiety is a normal physiological response that is designed to keep us safe. While small amounts of anxiety are normal and even helpful in certain situations, ongoing stress can have devastating effects. Many of us feel pressured to have it all together, and it’s too easy to have our worries dismissed or minimized.

Anxiety is highly subjective, and you may not be certain whether your stress is healthy or not. Consider these questions:

  • Are you constantly “on edge” or nervous?
  • Do you frequently feel disconnected from your surroundings?
  • Are your worries often out of proportion to the actual situation?
  • Do you have trouble sleeping?
  • Do you have physical symptoms, such as a pounding heart, regular headaches, trembling, and appetite changes when faced with a specific situation or in everyday life?

For some, anxiety comes in waves, while for others, it’s marked by panic attacks, phobias, and strong physical symptoms. You’ve likely heard of the phrase “fight or flight,” which refers to the immediate reaction a person has to potential danger. A public speech, running late to work, or receiving a passive-aggressive email can all trigger anxiety. While modern stressors may not put us in immediate danger, our bodies still perceive them as so.

Managing stress can be hard due to the abstract nature of many of our fears, and it can get to the point that it interferes with your life, relationships, self-esteem, and well-being. However, know that you don’t have to feel “broken” to go to therapy. We can all benefit from reassessing our thoughts and understanding how they influence our everyday lives.

Therapy Lets You Thrive

Coping with anxiety often involves understanding why you’re experiencing it in the first place. Anxiety is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. For some, it is the result of a traumatic experience, such as abuse. Anxiety also affects marginalized identities and those experiencing repeated stressful situations. LGBTQIA++ folk and BIPOC individuals often face stressors and trauma unique to their identities.

While the idea of living with anxiety can feel overwhelming, you don’t have to do it alone. JCA Mental Health’s mission is to help you feel safe and confident. Our office is a safe space. No matter what you’re going through—and whether you perceive your own struggles as big or small—we are your source of strength. Using therapy, you’ll:

  • Explore the underlying causes of anxiety and learn how to manage your symptoms.
  • Find effective coping methods that work for you.
  • Talk about your fears and challenge them head-on with a specially trained therapist.
  • Reframe your perspective and identify unhelpful thoughts.

No matter what you’re going through, you won’t have to explain yourself at our office. Our diverse office staff is trained in many issues. You’ll feel seen, validated, and respected when we work with you toward your goals.
